Goodbye To A Legend

This past Monday we lost an American hero. Michael Mantenuto was found dead in an apparent suicide at age 35.

He was born and raised in Holliston, Massachusetts and played cawlege hawkey up in Maine for the Black Bears. But his most notable achievement to the public was his spot on depiction of Charlestown’s own Jack O’Callahan in the movie Miracle (best sports movie of all time).

Mantenuto acted for a few more years but when his acting career concluded in 2008 he joined the U.S. Army Special Forces. Col. Guillaume “Will” Beaurpere, the commander of Mantenuto’s 1st Special Forces Group broke the news on Facebook:

“It is with a great sadness that I notify you of the loss of one of our own. SSG Michael J. Mantenuto, 18E, HHC, 1st SFG(A) was found dead yesterday afternoon, 24 April 2017, by the Des Moines Police Department. Those of you that knew Mike will remember him for his passionate love for his family and his commitment to the health of the force. He is survived by his wife Kati Vienneau, daughter Ava, and son Leo, who live locally on JBLM; and by his parents, Joseph and Kerry Mantenuto who reside in Massachusetts.”

Rest easy, OC.
