Khudobin is Shown the Door, Welcome to the Zane ZoneTM

Well I can't say I'm surprised, and neither should you. Today the Bruins waived back up goalie Anton Khudobin after seven starts in his second stint with the B's. A couple years ago, Khudobin's first time around with the Black & Gold, he was a solid number two goalie behind Tuukka Rask. Came in every now and then to allow Tuukka to take a night off, and held his own. But this year was a completely different story. I touched on it in my last blog about the B's saying after Tuukka, the goaltending situation was a lost cause. Any time Khudobin was given the nod, the Bruins chance of winning was instantly slim to none. So after a 1-5-1 record, 3.06 GAA and .885 save percentage, the front office had no choice but to part ways with Dobby. The major role of the back up goalie is to come into games when the starter needs a rest and be able to fit in seamlessly. Whether it was the Bruins lack of confidence in Khudobin, the team's lack of defense in front of him, or Anton just not being that good of a goalie, it was time to make a change. This is a league that demands results and when you're not producing results, it's time to cut ties. Farewell Anton, I wish you the best of luck.

This however opens the door for rising phenom Zane McIntyre. While Khudobin has been trending downward this season as the back up, McIntyre has done just the opposite down in Providence. Zane's 1.65 GAA and .947 save percentage has resulted in a 9-0-0 record for the former University of North Dakota standout. It's obvious that the suits have decided it's time bring up the prodigy, let him learn from Tuukka and get his toes wet in the big leagues, so he can be groomed into the goalie of the future. Tuukka will be a man of the past by 2019, Zane McIntyre is going to Matt Murray the hell out of Tuukka. McIntyre won a national championship at North Dakota, playing his best hockey when the lights were brightest, something Tuukka has never done. Zane is the man of the future. Two U's, two K's, two more years.

Also, in case you live under a rock, the best hockey in the world right now is the World Junior Championships going on up in Montreal and Toronto. Every year this tournament never ceases to amaze me. The pure talent of these teenagers is unbelievable and Bruins prospect Charlie McAvoy is no exception. The kid has been one of, if not the best defenseman in every game. He's an exceptional skater with NHL awareness who LOVES to hop up in the rush and has a nose for the net. The Boston University product is up there with the best of them in this tournament and I can not wait til he makes his way to the Garden. He also rocks the A which means he has great leadership, but isn't afraid to party.
