If you come at the king, you best not miss…and J. Cole certainly didn’t.
J. Cole has been in the headlines this week as his new album 4 Your Eyez Only drops on Friday, but he released two independent tracks last week as a teaser. The songs titled “Everybody Dies,” and “False Prophets” came out late last Thursday, both of which take shots at some of the popular rappers today.

False Prophets in particular has a couple verses that seem to take shots at some of the biggest artists in the game, most notably Kanye West. The song talks about the effects of becoming famous and how much pressure comes with it. Kanye is not mentioned by name but the lyrics talk about an artist’s ego taking over and controlling his every move (nailed it), the fact that people are loyal to how he used to be (yup), and how he fell victim to the demons he warned everyone about on the College Dropout album. He also said that he was ashamed to have idolized someone who claimed to be real but roped himself in with the Kardashians, who are the furthest thing from it.
He also threw some shade at Drake and the fact that he doesn’t write all of his material, a truth that Meek Mill leaked last year and started one of the biggest rap beefs in recent memory (which Drake bodied Meek with “Back to Back”).
Kanye’s downfall has been in the news a lot recently as he cancelled the end of his Saint Pablo Tour and checked into rehab for depression. Cole hasn’t come out with an album since his double platinum project 2014 Forest Hills Drive and this may be his way of hyping up the release, but he is not making very many friends by taking these kind of shots.
But there is no such thing as bad publicity, and after almost two years without any new material there is no doubt J. Cole is going to kill it yet again.
