Andddddd it's underwhelming. After what was one of the more ridiculous weekends of upsets in college football in the last 30 years, you would expect to see a little more of a shake up in this weeks rankings. Not the case. 3 of the top 4 remained in tact with only UDub falling out, however even they only dropped 2 spots to number 6. Lets break down the top 10 gang:
1. Alabama - Lemme start off by saying I HATE Alabama. Hate em. Can't stand em. Hate how boring they are, hate that everyone thinks they have a good quarterback. Hate how they win national championships by running the ball 4 yards at a time up the gut 50 times a game. But most of all HATE that smug punk Nick Saban. Everyone loves to praise Saban on how good he is and how he's one of the best CFB coaches of all time, but people forget the only reason he's doing this in college is because he couldn't hack it with the big boys in the NFL and had to run back to the minors. Can't let that go unnoticed. WITH THAT SAID, just hand em the trophy. Head and toes the best team in the land and with Auburn showing they're not that good with the loss to Georgia last weekend, the Tide have even more of a cake walk to the promised land than the Patriots.
2. Ohio State - 3 spot jump for the Buckeyes this week after handling Maryland 62-3. (Side note why on Earth did Maryland and Rutgers join the B1G? Makes no sense they STINK) At some point we all knew the Buckeyes were gonna make it back into the playoff picture after their uncharacteristic loss to Penn State. However for the B1G, they're only gonna be able to send in one team, which is most likely gonna be the winner of Michigan-Ohio State in 2 weeks. But keep an eye on Urban Meyer, dude is a sneak, wouldn't be surprised if Ohio State snakes their way into the final 4 with another loss.
3. Michigan - Probably the most surprising loss last weekend getting upset by a lowly Iowa team on a last minute field goal. To be honest I thought it would hurt the Wolverines a little more, but going from the 2 to 3 spot is essentially meaningless, as long as you stay outta the 4 spot and avoid playing Alabama in the semis you got a shot. I will say even after last weeks loss, look for Jim Harbaugh to fire up the squad and go on a nice little run to the national championship. I picked Michigan to win it all back in September and I'm sticking with em.I think they beat Ohio State, win the B1G, and pull the upset on Bama, they're the only team good enough to up end the defending champs.
4. Clemson - As much as it kills me to say this because Dabo is my boy and I love Deshaun Watson, I think the run is over for the Tigers. They've been on a ridiculous stretch of luck this year squeaking out games they easily could have lost (NC State missing a chip shot, just to name one) and I think this loss to Pitt is the wind coming outta the sails for Clemson. Too much has gone right for the Tigers, they finally lost the momentum and I see a late season collapse on the horizon. Clemson loses a shocker to Wake Forest and slips outta the top 4 making room for Louisville.
5. Louisville - Get this team in the damn playoff! What more do they have to do! they've been running teams up and down the field, pouring on points, and still haven't cracked the top 4. One loss this year to Clemson, in Death Valley, and that's it. No reason they shouldn't be in the playoff. Oh yeah and they got this guy Lamar Jackson, ever heard of him? Only has like a gazillion yards and touchdowns this year. How do you not put the Heisman front runner in the playoff, wake up.
6. Washington - Smell ya later PAC-12, you guys had a nice little run. The PAC-12 is a joke. Yeah they had a couple of good years when Oregon was elite, but even then when they finally got the chance in the title game they laid an egg to Ohio State. Everyone like to say there's east coast bias and the PAC-12 doesn't get any love. Well PAC-12 it's cause you stink. Especially this year. Washington was a fraud, and at the end of the day it was your own conference who shot you in the foot. Look out for USC though, not this year but in the next couple years, they got a legit QB now in freshman in Sam Darnold and have strung together a 7-3 season, officially a team on the rise. Also, PAC-12 you might wanna mix in some defense, as you can see it works great for the Big XII and their playoff chances.
KEEP AN EYE ON:
7 Wisconsin & 8 Penn State - Depending on how the B1G shakes out and if these 2 keep on winning, wouldn't be surprised if either, not both, sneaks into the top 4 by the time the season's over.
TAKE YOUR EYE OFF:
15 Auburn - Horrible loss to Georgia last week offically smashed their playoof hopes. Lotta people were murmuring that they could give Bama a game in the Iron Bowl and maybe squak into the playoff. Not happening. Go Dawgs!
GAME OF THE WEEK:
9 Oklahoma at 14 West Virginia - Love me some Big XII action! I've been riding with WV all season long, and Baker Mayfield is my boy so I am all sorts of jazzed up for this showdown in Morgantown. If we have another wild weekend of upsets like this past one, which I hope we do, The winner of this game mighttttt find themselves knocking on the playoff door. No Big XII title me is killer though. SO YOU'RE SAYING THERE'S A CHANCE?!?!?!
Buckle up, only 2 weeks left, see you next week
