It's That Time of Year Again

Labor Day Weekend is this weekend and that means 2 things: summer has come to an end and it's time to head back to school. As you probably know if you've paid attention to Keno Radio at all for the last 4 months I have retired from college and have been forced to move on to the real world. Now as much as I would love to ramble on about how terrible the real world is and where I'm at on my suicide watch, that is not what this blogs about. This blog is about a celebration. A celebration for the fact that it is once again time to head back to the 4 year fantasy we call college. After letting it sink in for a couple months that I will not be taking my talents back to Amherst this fall, I wanted to write this blog for the youngins who are lucky enough to have 4, 3, 2, or even 1 year left of the greatest years of your life. Now I know what you're thinking, what do I know, I'm a washed up bum who's just trying to relive his glory days and you know what you're absolutely right. That's precisely what I'm doing with this blog because I am incredibly envious of anybody who is heading back to Amherst, or any college because it truly is the greatest 4 year vacation you'll ever have. However you don't earn the self-proclaimed nickname Captain Fun willy nilly, you gotta prove yourself. So with that said, here's a couple of thoughts to keep in mind as you head back to school:

Enjoy it: Pretty simple. Legit enjoy every second of it, As cliche as it sounds it really FLIES by, like ridiculously fast. So enjoy every single second of it. And I'm not saying just the partying and weekends, enjoy it all. One of the biggest things I miss is just hanging with the roomies watching The Challenge or the late night trips to Berk. It's not just the weekends that are fun, it's everything put together that makes the entire experience unforgettable.

Don't go home: Unless you absolutely have to, don't go home. I know at the beginning of the semester it feels like you have forever their and you can spare a weekend to head home. Don't. There's only 14 weekends per semester. That not a whole lot. make the most of every single one, I promise you'll have a better time at school than at whatever is going on at home.

Go on spring break: Spring break is the GOAT. Straight up the greatest 2 weeks of my entire life were PCB and Daytona my junior and senior year. Absolute must. make it happen, swipe the card til it doesn't swipe no more, and when it gets declined hit up big bro for some cash. And don't feel like you gotta go on some elaborate trip to the tropics. i went to Myrtle Beach sophomore year and it was 45 degrees and rainy all week and still had a blast. It's literally college on the beach minus the school work. Absolute no brainer.

Watch Van Wilder: Van Wilder is the absolute GOAT. I had a few Blue Cans one night last year and wanted to watch it. Ended up buying it on demand for 18 bucks instead of renting and was the best decision I made all year. Must've watched it 30 times. Any time we were pregaming or post gaming threw on a little VW with some music and it was the best. Also just a all around fantastic movie. Ryan Reynolds at his finest, along with a SMOKIN hot Tara Reid mix in some hall of fame advice and you have the best college, nay, movie of all time.

Invite your chancellor over for dinner: One thing led to another my junior year and the chancellor and vice chancellor of UMass ended up at my house for dinner one night. I'll elaborate more on a #StoryTimeTuesday

Be friends with everybody: Everyone's cool in college and the real reason your their isn't to learn it's to meet people and network. You never know who's gonna end up working where so make friends with as many people as possible and you'll put yourself in a much better spot.

Don't waste your time protesting: in 2015 protests became a huge trend in the college world. Don't waste your time doing it. Yes these issues are real and yes things need to change but it shouldn't fall into the hands of college kids. As much as you want to think you're educated and you're opinion matters, it doesn't. We don't know anything about the world. Just because we've taken a few courses on human rights doesn't mean our opinions matter and mean anything more than anyone else. You're not there long enough to waste any of your time protesting, let the smart people of the world figure those issues out. If there's any cause you should get behind its the Make College Great Again campaign:

Choose the experience over the duty: one of the few things one of my professors told me that actually stuck with me. Yeah you're gonna have a lot of work to do but at some point you gotta realize when it's time to blow off some steam. Not saying school isn't important because that's why you're there, but there will come a time when something fun presents itself but you have a prior obligation. Just keep in mind that you'll always remember the experience over the duty.

Saturdays Are For The Boys: There's a reason this saying has picked up so much momentum, because its true. If you're a single dude don't get caught up tryna get with chicks. no one likes the guy who thinks any night he didn't get laid is a failure. If it's meant to happen it'll happen, but speaking for myself, I had a girlfriend all throughout college and it was great. Every night I went out my sole purpose to to have the maximum amount of fun as possible. I wasn't worrying about chicks, all I was concerned about was having as much fun as possible and I had a BALL.

Don't waste your time at the gym: you got the rest of your life to try to be healthy and work out and eat right. College is all about eating and drinking whatever you want. Let loose, enjoy yourself. No one like the guy who holds everyone up to go out cause he's gotta toss some weights around.

Make up a sweet nickname for yourself (or 3): I'm a huge nickname guy. If I don't have a nickname for you it probably means I don't like you. So if you don't have a nickname, it might mean you are lacking friends. If that's the case, just make one up for yourself. Captain Fun, Gary Filet, QB1 all self-proclaimed nicknames that stuck enough where if you said it people would know who you were talking about. Gotta have a nickname.

And most importantly HAVE SOME FUN: the biggest take away for me is that college is literally a 4 year vacation in fake life. Enjoy every second of it. Live it up on the weekends. Live it up on the weekdays. Do everything you can to make yourself happy because it goes by WAY to fast for you to waste any time not being happy and having fun. Yeah it allegedly can get stressful, but at the end of the day you gotta remember its only college. There's gonna be wayyyy harder things we're gonna have to deal with later on in life so looking back your gonna laugh at yourself for being stressed over college stuff. You're not there for a long time, you're there for a good time, make the most of it.

And if that wasn't enough for you here's the College Recap Podcast we did the last week of our college careers, touches up on some more stuff if you need a good listen:
